Even in the aftermath of Hurricane Irene, the loyal listeners of 102.9 DRC-FM came through by donating $205,358.44 to the Ninth Annual Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Radiothon benefiting Connecticut Children's.

"All of us at Connecticut Children's are extremely grateful to the 102.9 DRC-FM team, WFSB-Channel 3 and their loyal listeners and viewers for this outpouring of support for our patients and families.  Their donations make it possible for our doctors, nurses and their colleagues to give children the care they deserve," said Martha Schall, president of Connecticut Children's Medical Center Foundation. "Since this radiothon began in 2003, more than $1.7 million has been raised for Connecticut Children's."

The radiothon took place from Thursday, Sept. 1 through Saturday, Sept. 3 and aired live from Connecticut Children's.  The last hour of the radiothon featured a record 187 callers who made donations.  The radiothon featured Jerry Kristafer from the Big D Morning Show along with Program Director Grahame Winters, Mike Stevens, Larry Wells and Floyd Wright.  WFSB meteorologist Scot Haney once again helped kick off Radiothon with a live morning broadcast from the Radiothon on Sept. 1.

Heartwarming interviews with patients, families and staff were conducted throughout the broadcast.  The radiothon donations make possible investments in the technology, research and people that make the Medical Center a special place for every child.

"Thank you to all our listeners for the difference they have made in the lives of these children and families," Grahame Winters said. "It is quite an honor for all us here at 102.9 DRC-FM to be a part of this event."
