Hello, my name is Aliana and in August, I will be celebrating my 14th birthday! I will be holding my fourth annual “Aliana’s Rocking Party on the Pad” fundraiser for Connecticut Children’s Medical Center on Wednesday, August 15 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. For the past 4 years, instead of birthday gifts, I ask for donations to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center and this year I have chosen to donate the funds to the Child Life Department. Child Life specialists facilitate coping and use a variety of interventions to support the emotional needs of hospitalized children, as well as their siblings when appropriate.
I, too, am a patient at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. In December 2012, I was diagnosed with CVID which is the most diagnosed immunodeficiency; however, it is still very rare. CVID (Common Variable Immunodeficiency) is a life-long illness that causes a person to lack functional antibodies that fight infection, making them extremely susceptible to recurrent infections. When I would look out my hospital window and saw the blank concrete pad below – I decided that I would use that space to spread cheer and joy to other patients inside the Medical Center.
My friends and family will chalk the entire concrete entryway, also known as “the pad”, in front of the Medical Center so when kids look out their windows it will make them happy & smile. We will also be painting special rocks to place in the garden near the Emergency Department to be displayed all year long. This year, we will be taking donations online and on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. I hope you will help me to meet my goal of $5,000!
