Extra Life gamer Tim Vincens (right), of Extra Life Hartford Guild, won $21,040 for Connecticut Children’s at the Extra Life United gaming tournament in Orlando in March 2017.

Extra Life United took place in late March and six competitors from Connecticut won big for Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, bringing home about $40,000 in donations for the Medical Center. Extra Life United is a gaming event like no other.

This annual event unites Extra Lifers from across the globe to compete in a gaming tournament to unlock funds for their local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital. Not only do they get to meet other like-minded Extra Lifers, but they also get to meet and play games with the children that their efforts directly support, including last year’s Connecticut Champion, Emma Duffin. Extra Life team member Tim Vincens came in first place overall at the tournament, winning $21,040 for the Medical Center.

A special thank you to Tim, Harrison Guzman, Tracy DeGrazia, Hong Nguyen, Gary Pope and Tyler Eppich for participating and to all who supported Connecticut Children’s at Extra Life United!

Year-Round Fundraising

The annual tournament isn’t the only fundraising effort by the gaming community. Extra Life is a year-round fundraising initiative that culminates in a 24-hour gaming challenge, where participants can play from the comfort of their own homes while supporting their local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital.

Volunteers pledge their support to the gamers to play games for an allotted amount of time. Participants are encouraged to take part in a 24-hour National Game Day, scheduled for Nov. 4 this year, and they are invited to host other game days throughout the year. Fundraising begins on Jan. 1 and ends on Dec. 31. Last year, Extra Life raised more than $77,000 for Connecticut Children’s Medical Center.
