Help Kids Like Ava and Isabella
During my pregnancy, I developed a condition that caused Isabella, one of our twin daughters, to get fewer nutrients than her sister, Ava. But when the girls were delivered seven weeks early at our local hospital, Isabella was fine! Ava was the one having trouble…
Ava needed emergency surgery to correct a problem with her esophagus. And she needed to get to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Connecticut Children’s—fast. I barely glimpsed Ava’s tiny head before they rushed her away.
In the ambulance, Ava stopped breathing.
But the incredible transport team revived our 3-pound, 11-ounce fighter. Christine Rader, MD, and her team performed Ava’s surgery at Connecticut Children’s, and our daughter began to thrive.
Having two babies in two different hospitals was physically and mentally exhausting for me and my husband, Nick. Fortunately, Connecticut Children’s was able to transport Isabella, who had feeding issues, to the NICU at Connecticut Children’s to be with her sister.
At last, our family was together.
And Connecticut Children’s continues to provide the skilled and compassionate care that Nick and so many other children need.
That’s why we are so grateful. That’s why we want to share our story with you. That’s why we are asking for your help.
By making your gift to the Greatest Need Children’s Fund today:
- You help Connecticut Children’s recruit and retain the best doctors and nurses who save children’s lives.
- You keep a team at the ready to transport critically ill babies from anywhere in Connecticut to the place where high-quality care is ready and waiting for them.
- You make the best possible pediatric medical care available for pediatric patients—from newborns to young adults.
Ava and Isabella are doing amazingly well today! While their gross motor skills are a little delayed, they are developmentally on track. And Connecticut Children’s is still there for us—providing physical therapy and helping our girls—just like they always have.
When you give to the Greatest Need Children’s Fund, you directly benefit children and families. We know. And we thank you.
With deepest thanks, on behalf of our family,
Nina, Ava and Isabella’s mom
